What You Can Expect At Your First Session

The first therapy appointment can understandably be nerve-wracking, but rest assured, it’s a perfectly normal feeling. After our initial phone consultation, where we’ll have a chance to connect and discuss your needs, I’ll provide you with a link to your private client portal.

In this portal, you’ll find intake evaluation forms and consent documents to complete online before our first session. These forms allow me to gain insight into what brought you to therapy, your personal history, and your therapeutic goals.

You deserve to feel heard, understood, and respected without judgment as you begin your healing journey. It’s both an honor and a privilege for me to accompany you on this path. By taking care of paperwork beforehand, we can make the most of our first full session together.

During our initial session, we’ll engage in a conversation where I’ll learn more about you—your needs, concerns, strengths, and interests. Together, we’ll collaborate on creating a treatment plan that focuses on your specific goals. Additionally, we’ll discuss interventions and tools tailored to meet your individual needs.

Your treatment frequency will typically be once or twice a week, depending on your unique circumstances and requirements.

Insurance

You Matter Counseling LLC operates as a private pay practice, and I do not directly bill insurance for my services. As an out-of-network provider, clients may be eligible for full or partial reimbursement for therapy services through their insurance company.

For clients interested in seeking out-of-network reimbursement, I recommend contacting their insurance provider directly to inquire about their out-of-network mental health benefits. Here are some important questions to ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • Is pre-approval required before receiving out-of-network mental health services for reimbursement?
  • If I have out-of-network benefits, will I be reimbursed the full amount paid or only a portion?
  • Do I have a deductible, and if so, what is the amount?
  • What documentation is needed to submit for reimbursement?

Understanding your insurance benefits and the reimbursement process is your responsibility, but I’m always available to address any questions you may have. Upon request, I’m pleased to provide clients with an insurance superbill, which can be submitted to their insurer for reimbursement according to their out-of-network insurance agreement.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.

  • You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit: www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019
